At 8 Min, that open space is a cricket/football oval and it is part of the "Proof Range". The Proof Range is part of the dept. of defence (A definite misnomer) weapons testing range. I think it was originally an artillery range and it part includes a large swathe of St Vincent's Gulf, an exclusion zone. The Range has been there at least as far back as the late 1960's. I must concur on the closing lines in the Biblical quote ...big time!
